Leading Swiss technology firms to co-operate on world first in high performance computing for the oil and gas industry

DALCO, one of Europes leading suppliers of high-performance computing systems has announced a strategic partnership with Spectraseis Technologie AG
Spectraseis will pilot the industrys first use of an AMD Opteron 4564 server with AMD 8000 Quad Opteron Motherboard 8 x dual-core AMD Opteron 885 2.6 Ghz Processors and 256GB DDR ECC registered memory.
The systems massive memory will allow company researchers to run very large three-dimensional numerical simulations of ambient seismic waves propagating in multiphase reservoir structures. The algorithms for these simulations solve large systems of equations repeatedly for millions of time steps and require processing and memory capacity that until recently was the domain of the worlds largest companies and research institutions.
We needed to rapidly upgrade our scientific data processing and management systems to accommodate commercial-scale projects and more advanced numerical modeling said Patrik Eschle, Director, Systems and Software at Spectraseis. Both Spectraseis and DALCO are focused on delivering leading-edge technologies and making them work. It was a natural partnership.
Spectraseis customers will benefit from higher resolution data processing and the faster development and integration of new applications.
Spectraseis joins BMWs Sauber Formula One racing team, Americas Cup winner Team Alinghi and ETH Zurich as users of Dalco high performance computing systems.
